Born and
raised in Colombia, South America. I lived in Germany, and
Mexico before immigrated to the United States. I studied
fine arts and music in Colombia, and received my M.F.A. from
James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I am
currently the chair of the Art Department at La Sierra
University in Riverside, California.
I have taught
and exhibited extensively since the mid 1970s. My mixed
media paintings, and assemblages incorporate layering
processes, representing the multiplicity of my own life as
artist, teacher, mother, and wife. My art work, which
represents a reconstruction of my life journey, helps me to
understand and accept that all my blessings and misfortunes
have left a distinct mark, had a purpose, and contributed to
the person I am today.
My life path lead me into
experiencing different cultures; living in Colombia,
Germany, Mexico and the United States. While I was
encountering new people, places, and beliefs, I enriched
my weltanschauung. This growing process was not with out
pain. My
innocence was gone. I understand that the most valuable
knowledge I was granted is my conviction that all humans
are equal and experience the same needs and feelings. We
share experiences that transcend the world of forms,
color, and words.
ART
STATEMENT
The statement I make trough my art
express my genuine concern for human rights, and the
need of solidarity.
In my art I question actions, express
skepticism toward mandated behavior and changes, and
pour the complexity of my emotions into the goal of
communicating to the viewer. I do not limit myself
by tools or media, but instead use what is
available, proper, and oftentimes dictated by the
content of the message itself.
